Sorry for dropping off of the blog these last several weeks! I just completed a big move to Florida and have been digging my way out of boxes! I thought I would share with you the little weekend getaway that my husband and I recently went on to Chicago before our big move. We had a blast eating out, shopping, and just relaxing! We were in town for a wedding so we also got to see some great friends of ours get married as well!
Here is a shot of the view from our room:
The rooms at the Ritz Carlton are nicely appointed, have comfortable beds, luxurious bath robes and slippers, and L’occitane bath products! We always enjoy the view of Lake Michigan when we stay here and all of the Lake View Rooms we have stayed in have a fantastic view. One of the best parts about this hotel is its location. You can walk to tons of great shopping, restaurants, and you have direct access to Michigan Avenue. While we were there, we were able to enjoy some beautiful Spring weather in Chicago. We went out several days and ran along the jogging trail next to Lakeshore Drive/Lake Michigan. It really was so relaxing and beautiful!
We also ate at some great restaurants. One of our favorite spots is the Ralph Lauren Restaurant that is located in the large Ralph Lauren store on Michigan Ave. This restaurant seems so touristy but the food is just delicious. Here I am at our little table tucked inside this cozy restaurant.
The service is always top-notch and the food is excellent as well. Every single time we come here I consistently order the Dover Sole. It is my favorite! It is also conveniently next to my faves, JCrew and Kate Spade!
We also ordered pizza delivery to our room on our first night in the city! Chicago is known for their deep dish pizza and it really is unique and tasty. The crust is really thick, the toppings are overflowing, and the cheese is directly on top of the crust underneath the toppings (as opposed to traditional pizza where it is on top of the toppings on the top). We always order from Gino’s East. It is such a treat to eat pizza delivery in bed and order an in-room movie!
Another favorite of ours is The Berghoff for some German food! They have amazing beers and root beers brewed in house and we also always enjoy the spätzles, sauerbraten, and of course the apple strudel!
The wedding we went to was stunning! It was so wonderful to see one of our best friends marry the love of his life! You could just feel the warmth and love radiating in the room as they said their vows! They had their wedding at Salvage One, an antique store in downtown Chicago. The venue was so unique and gorgeous. We enjoyed looking at all the antiques during the cocktail hour and had to resist the urge to purchase some of the cool treasures while we were waiting for the wedding to start! They said their “I-do’s” in front of antique stained glass with old chandeliers lighting the space. We were so happy to be there with them and it really capped off our great weekend.
Do you guys have any Chicago favorites? We are going back for a dermatology conference in October and I always love branching out and trying new things!
